Purpose:  Love Teens into the Kingdom and Shape them into Mature Followers of Jesus Christ.

Position Status: Full Time

Compensation Package:  $30,000 to $40,000 annually

Reports to:  Sr. Pastor

Supervises:  Jr. & Sr. High Interns and Volunteer Staff

Experience:  3-5 years in youth ministry leadership

Education:  B.A., sound Biblical grounding from church, a Bible College or Seminary

Desired Character: Humble, Servant Attitude, Compassionate, Spiritual Maturity and Integrity as described in I Tim 3:1-7.

Desired Qualities:  People-person; outgoing; loves to hang out with teens, get to know them, care for them and mentor them; understands characteristics, learning styles, and spiritual development of teens (7th through 12th Grade); able to recruit adult volunteers and motivate, equip and lead leaders, modeling relational ministry for them; organized, creative and able to take initiative; a team leader and team player; willing to be flexible with programming to meet ministry needs and challenges; able to delegate

ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Director of Student Ministries will provide servant leadership for Jr. & Sr. High ministries as follows:
25%  STAFF MENTORING, TRAINING , DIRECTING & RECRUITING
- Recruit, build and develop a Jr. and Sr. High Leadership Team made up of paid interns, volunteer staff and student leaders
-Secure a Point Person for Jr. High WNL each year.  Point Person could be an adult volunteer or a seasoned intern.
-Line up and recruit teachers for Sunday Morning Small Groups and Mentoring Groups
- Work with Sr. Pastor to hire interns on a yearly basis and evaluate them twice a year.
- Mentor Interns by modeling contact work (take one or two with you whenever you go out), and by giving them ministry/leadership opportunities followed by debriefing and training.
- Contact leaders during the week (or as needed) to encourage, and to pray for them (general shepherding)
- Touch base with one team (Jr. or Sr. High) before a Midweek Outreach event to make sure everyone knows their part and pray for students before they come; and touch base with the other team after event for a quick evaluation and assign next week's responsibilities. Vary this because both Jr. & Sr. High teams need these connecting points with the Director.
-Meet monthly with youth staff for:
-Personal Contact reports and shepherding strategies
-Training/Team building
- Brainstorming/Evaluation/Tracking youth ministry goals
- Ministry assignments
- Plan Sr. High Midweek Outreach with Sr. High Team-;Director leads Sr. High; plan Jr. High WNL with point person and his/her team

20%  RELATIONAL MINISTRY (PERSONAL CONTACT WITH STUDENTS)
- Make personal spiritual growth and connection with Jesus a priority (you can't give away what you don't have; you can't introduce students to Jesus if you're not walking close to Him; and you can't grow students beyond where you have grown).
-Take an intern or two along with you to connect with students on campus, at games, taking them out for a "coke" or a movie-;whatever you need to do to meet students and form healthy, caring relationships which will give you opportunities to influence young people for Christ.
- Establish good relationships with area campuses so you can meet students on campus, showing our students you care (shepherding), and reaching out to their unchurched friends. OUTREACH
- Lead a Sr. High Mentoring Group during the week (group of 5 to 8 Sr. High students) LIFE APPLICATION
- Make phone calls inviting students to youth events, especially those who maybe have not connected yet, or those who go missing (and keep parents informed so they can encourage their student to go)
- Gather Jr. High Interns to interact with Sonshine After school students twice a month.

25%  DIRECT PROGRAM LEADERSHIP (Speaking/Facilitating/Organizing/Leading)
- Sr. High Wed. Night [6:30-8pm] OUTREACH
- Jr. or Sr. High Sunday Small Group followed by Service --sit with students [8:45-11:15am] GROUNDING
- Jr. High Confirmation [Mondays 3:30-4:30pm] GROUNDING
- Any Retreats, Lock-ins, Service Projects, Mission Trips, fundraisers or Special Outreach Events

30%  PLANNING, PREPPING, ADMINISTRATION
- Provide overall direction, goal setting, administration, evaluation, and planning for all Student Ministries (adhering to our Church vision and philosophy of ministry)
- Set topic/teaching themes for Midweek Outreach, Sunday Small Groups and Mentoring Groups for both Jr. & Sr. High (alignment with Church vision of FREE and Teaching Emphasis spelled out in our Youth Ministry Model)—ideal to bring your staff into this process
- Prepare talks for Sr. High Midweek outreach, teaching for Jr. or Sr. High Sunday Small Group, discussion for Sr. High Mentoring Group, teaching for Confirmation, and monthly training session for Staff
- Set up yearly calendar with major events like Easter Missions Trip, CHIC, Training Events, VBS, etc.  This will help with advance planning (when are registrations due, how much promotion lead time do you need, how many team building sessions before trip, how many fundraisers need to be held, who needs to be recruited)
- Attend weekly Church Staff Meetings and touch base with the Senior Pastor for prayer, goal setting, problem solving and evaluation.
- Have regular communication with parents of youths through calendars, mailings, meetings and phone calls.
- Keep the Discipleship Chair up to date on what is going on in Student Ministries (especially when it comes to Sunday Small Groups—all scheduling must be coordinated with Discipleship Chair and Children's Ministries Coordinator so we are all on the same page)
- Keep up on trends, resources, conferences, and best practices in other youth ministries across the country to be challenged and stay fresh and creative in giving leadership to Student Ministries.
- Manage the Youth Budget.  Keep track of money from fundraisers, missions/event trip registrations, etc.  Track deposits prior to Financial Secretary.
